Signature Experiences - The Anegundi Splendor
 
THE ANEGUNDI SPLENDOR -

Getting there:
By Road: KSRTC has a daily Rajahamsa bus service between Hampi Bazaar and Bengaluru (nine hours). The overnight sleeper bus to/from Goa, which runs November to March, is a popular option.
By Rail: Hospet (30 kms)
By Air: Bengaluru (360 kms)

Anegundi - literally meaning “Elephant’s pit” in Kannada – is from a bygone era dating back to the time of the Ramayana. This rustic hamlet on the northern bank of the Tungabhadra river is steeped in history, History older and richer than Hampi. Archaeological digs have revealed 8000 years of continuous human settlement here. Yes, 8000 years. Anegundi is believed to be Kishkinda, the vanar (monkey) kingdom of Ramayana. The birth place of Hanuman, Anegundi was the capital of the Vijayanagar kingdom before it was shifted to Hampi. The best way to reach the village is to take a short coracle ride across the river from Hampi. It can also be reached by road from Hospet town.
 
DAY 1
  • Arrive at Hospet and transfer to Anegundi. Check in at Homestay
  • After breakfast visit the Brindavan and the 64 pillar mandapa across the Tungabhadra by coracle. On return, the Ranganatha Temple, Jain Temple and the Gagan Mahal can be visited
  • Halt for lunch
  • After 15.00 hrs we visit the Pampa Sarovar and Anjanadri Hills to view the glorious sunset
  • Evening after tea, witness folk dance programme
  • After the programme we have Dinner
DAY 2
  • Visit Chintamani and Huchchayappa Matha and the Banana leaf handicrafts centre. Interact with the self - help groups after breakfast
  • After lunch and leisure, depart at 15.00 hrs to the Sugriva's cave, then to visit the Chandramouliswara Temple on Rishimukh Hill. We cross the river by coracle to the Vittala Temple, Purandhara Dasa Mandapa and Chakra Tirtha* (*C.Tirtha can be included subject to the age and interest profile of the group)
  • Evening after tea - documentary screening
  • After dinner, coracle ride along the Tungabhadra in the night
DAY 3
  • Depart for mohir mane and the rock painting sites after breakfast *(valid only for special interest groups) / Depart to Virupapura ghatta via the aqueduct and by coracle to Hampi. Visit Virupaksha Temple, Jain temple, Monolithic Narasimha and Krishna temple
  • Halt for Lunch
  • After lunch leave to visit the Kishkinta inscription site along the Gangavathi road*. (* only for special interest groups) / Visit monuments at Kamalapur via Talavarghatta road after crossing the river by coracle
  • Return to relax at the property - there will be a documentary screening - 18.30 - 20.30 hrs
  • After the show Dinner will be served and overnight stay
DAY 4
  • After breakfast take a tour of the heritage houses of Anegundi, visit an organic farm/agricultural fields in Anegundi and on return the Ranganatha cave
  • Lunch en route
  • Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Depart for Hospet in the evening
